Outdoor theatre is the most accessible and historical performance style and is a memorable way to spend a summer evening. The longest-established Open-Air Shakespeare company in the North West, Hillbark Players’ bi-annual presentations have both entranced and entertained Wirral audiences for almost fifty years. Weather Policy

Every theatre performance is unique, but this is especially the case with Open Air Theatre.

On rare occasions, it will not be possible for us to complete the performance, but we will never cancel a performance before the advertised start time. This is because you would be amazed how often it can rain all day and then clear up just in time for the action to start and indeed, how localised bad weather can be. Also we really don't want to disappoint anyone - audiences or our actors (who are always keen to perform, if at all possible).

In the event of a performance being cancelled or abandoned due to inclement weather, or any other circumstances beyond the control of Hillbark Players, no refund will be made. Tickets cannot be exchanged for other performances or returned for resale.

Director Alan Veste and producer Phil Bimpson have taken the innovative step of presenting not the stage version of the classic Ken Kesey novel, but their interpretation of the film.

It’s the story of Randle Patrick McMurphy, who avoiding a short prison term, opts for the comparative comfort of a stay in an institution by declaring himself insane.

The tyrannical nurse Ratched has beaten the inmates into submission, but with his two friends Billy Bibbit and the hulking “chief” Bromden, McMurphy sets out to test the limits of the system and the extent of the nurse’s power.

In an innovative twist some brief location segments have been filmed and will be viewed by the audience on a screen before the action switches to the stage.
