Wirral Youth Heroes Awards 2013

The Wirral Youth Heroes Awards launched in 2011 as a grassroots response to the riots that rocked the nation during the summer of that year. The first Youth Heroes Awards ceremony was held in February 2012 and celebrated the achievements of 24 of the Wirral’s most inspirational young people.

As Martin Dickson from Wirral YFC, the youth and schools work charity who launched the awards, suggests, “Wirral is home to thousands of young people who are heroes and we set out to find the most inspirational from amongst them. We wanted to publicly affirm and thank these young heroes for all that they do and highlight them as a small glimpse of the massive majority of young people in the Wirral. In doing so our hope was that we could play our own small part in inspiring a generation on young catalysts who could make a long term impact on their communities.”

The event was a massive success and received high praise from politicians, press and the public. For Martin and his team at Wirral YFC, this feedback was very encouraging but what most pleased them most was the feedback from the young people themselves and their families. It was immediately clear from this that the awards had had a significant effect on them and that it had inspired them to keep on doing the incredible things they do. In the days and weeks following the first awards night the Wirral YFC office was flooded with requests for the awards to be made an annual event and Wirral YFC were only to pleased to oblige.

The 2013 Youth Heroes Awards will take place on June 7th 2013 at the stunning new Floral Pavilion in New Brighton.

Due to previous sell out performances, DANZA will be returning to the Floral Pavilion Theatre to perform our annual showcase for the 5th year running.

Talented dancers from across Merseyside will be performing a wide range of different dance styles including; Street, Hip Hop, Salsa, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Musical Theatre and much much more.

Liverpool Theatre School’s tenth annual production at the Floral Pavilion will star the talented students performing favourites from the musicals. An electric evening of professionally produced entertainment with glitz and glamour that is sure to amaze and dazzle. A performance not to be missed and suitable for all.

Irby Dance Studio presents a fun performance with lots of talent to watch. An entertaining performance for all age groups to enjoy with music from the decades, performed by our talented children and students including all genres of dance.

Merseyside Dance Centre of Birkenhead and Liverpool is proud to present DANCE & DAZZLE, the biannual performance showcasing the talent and dedication of its younger performers. Aged from 3 – 18 years the MDCDancers are here to dazzle and delight!

Directed by Amanda Newby, performed by Wirral Metropolitan College drama students. Includes dance performances from classical and contemporary themes, to popular Broadway genres. 'Our Country's Good' is a 1988 play written by British playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker, adapted from the Thomas Keneally novel The Playmaker.

Young Performers from The Wirral Academy of Performing Arts aged 3 - 18 present a wonderful evening of entertainment featuring students work in drama, singing and dance from the past term.

IF YOU love One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – get set for the play of the film of the play of the book.

Director Alan Veste and producer Phil Bimpson have taken the innovative step of presenting not the stage version of the classic Ken Kesey novel, but their interpretation of the film.

It’s the story of Randle Patrick McMurphy, who avoiding a short prison term, opts for the comparative comfort of a stay in an institution by declaring himself insane.

The tyrannical nurse Ratched has beaten the inmates into submission, but with his two friends Billy Bibbit and the hulking “chief” Bromden, McMurphy sets out to test the limits of the system and the extent of the nurse’s power.

In an innovative twist some brief location segments have been filmed and will be viewed by the audience on a screen before the action switches to the stage.

Bunty the Bouncer tells the tale of a club doorman over one night on a Liverpool City Centre night club door. Single mother Bunty is trying to earn a living and keep the roof over her kids head. She has promised her daughter and mother a week away at Pwllheli Butlins and she's not going to break that promise so she will make her spends the only way she knows how by using her fist's.

SHE'S mean, she's tough and she's dog rough - and Bunty the Bouncer is heading back to a stage near you!

Bunty is the hardest bouncer at the tackiest nightclub in town.

Burn your fluffy bras and leave your hot pants at home - it's smart dress only.
And, if you're wearing jeans or trainers you're not getting past Bunty - at least, not without a very vigorous body search.

This one woman play written by Marc Gee is performed by Lynne Fitzgerald who plays 10 characters including beered-up Billy, Greek kebab shop assistant Maria and drag artist Shona Snatch.

The play was first performed by renowned Liverpool actress/comedienne Lynne Fitzgerald in 1992 and to celebrate Bunty's twenty year anniversary 100th Meridian Theatre Company are bringing Bunty back to a stage near you... "if your names not down your NOT comin in!"
